EUROPESERVICING 2006
DIRECTOR'S CUT: SESSION 1

'The Matrix'

The Matrix is marketed with the tagline, "Be afraid of the future". It is the new benchmark for all science fiction films to come. (A good thing considering the length of 2001 A Space Oddyssey although who can forget HAL and the monkey?). The plot is just too difficult to describe.
But the point is that the future is all about "the Net", "the Grid", and the movement toward a cashless society. When cash is no longer used, information becomes the ultimate currency.

And that’s our point. In the mortgage industry, the repository for all of the currency of the industry is in the hands of the servicers – and that is exactly how servicing should be viewed. It is far more advanced than the industrialized, factory approach, and much more accurate in describing the true nature and purpose of servicers.

Top issuers show the strength of their servicing operations in investor road shows, or point out the fact that their third-party servicers have the highest servicer ratings. Shrewd investors drill down to understand how the funds are collected and allocated.

From EuroCatalyst’s perspective, the greatest challenge lies in our ability to give purpose and positioning to an entire sector – and you can clearly see what we’re trying to do in getting all servicers to take up this marketing strategy and run with it.

The "director's cut" or "notes" were written by EuropeServicing's chief architect and host, Toni Moss, CEO of EuroCatalyst. Because the event is being held at the famous 195 Piccadilly, the home of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, EuroCatalyst has chosen to use movie titles to theme each session. While some see films as entertainment, others recognise the art of cinema as a record of the human condition. EuroCatalyst chose titles and short clips of films to theme and inspire discussion as we bring the triumph and struggles of the European servicing sector to life over the course of the two-day EuropeServicing event. Even if you have not seen any of the films mentioned, the simple titles should tell you everything you need to know. Moss and her guest hosts look forward to interviewing the lineup of panellists who represent the best that the European servicing industry has to offer, and hope to change your perspectives about the role and importance of servicing as the stage upon which the European mortgage industry is set.
